According to the Heart Failure Society of America, more than six million Americans 20 years and older have heart failure and is linked to 8.5% of heart disease deaths in the U.S. Heart failure is a chronic condition that develops when the heart does not pump enough blood to keep up with the body’s needs. While some patients will have to turn to medication or surgery to manage their heart failure, depending on the severity, many are able to treat their heart failure with diet and exercise, including an increase in water intake.
Our bodies’ primary chemical component is H2O. Water is needed for proper cell, tissue, and organ function. To say water is important to our overall health is a severe understatement and the benefits our bodies reap from water are endless. Healthy weight, lower body fat, smaller waist circumference, decreased risk of hyperglycemia, and type 2 diabetes are just a few examples of how proper hydration can impact your overall health. The list could go on and on. However, even knowing this, many do not meet the daily intake suggestions or consider the quality of water they are putting in their body and how that can affect their health.
Drink to Your Heart’s Health
When specifically looking at the key role water plays in reducing heart disease, a study by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute examined whether water consumption could reduce or prevent severe heart problems. The study analyzed the medical records of more than 11,000 adult patients, ages 45-66 over a 25-year span. When the study began, none of these patients had a history of heart failure, diabetes, or obesity.
What they found in this analysis is that when the body’s fluid level decreased, its sodium levels increased, which they linked to a higher risk of developing heart problems. Too much sodium can make it more difficult for your heart to pump blood. The heart can also weaken or stiffen when sodium levels are too high, which can lead to increased blood pressure.
They found a direct correlation between adequate hydration and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease since fluids aid in pumping blood efficiently, supporting blood vessel function, and encouraging proper circulation.
If something as simple as drinking water could save your life, how much would you drink? While everyone’s specific hydration needs are different, the guidelines set forth by researchers are 6-8 cups for women and 8-12 cups for men. Many fall short of this recommendation, putting themselves at a higher risk for developing heart disease and other health-related issues.
Choose Quality Water with iSpring
All water is not created equally. If you receive your water through a municipal source, it undergoes treatment to remove dangerous contaminants. However, many undesirables can still be hidden and would need to be addressed with a water filtration system to provide you with 100% confidence in your drinking water.
While each of our water filtration systems has its own set of strengths, one of the most effective water purification methods is reverse osmosis (RO). This is because of the amount of contaminants they can remove with their semi-permeable membrane, which is able to remove microscopic contaminants.
Three of our recommended RO systems that guarantee you are enjoying pure, healthy water are our RCD100HCG, our RO500AK-BN+ UVF8, and our RCC7AK. Each of these reverse osmosis systems removes up to 99% of contaminants including PFAS (PFOA and PFOS), vinyl chloride, chlorine, fluoride, lead, arsenic, asbestos, calcium, sodium, and others from your water, providing your body with exactly what it needs to keep you healthy.
